LA GALAXY DUO NOMINATED FOR AWARDS

The LA Galaxy duo of Javier Hernandez and Julian Araujo have been nominated for the MLS Year-End Awards for 2021. Mexican international Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez made the final list of three nominees for the Comeback Player of the Year Award, while LA Galaxy defender Araujo made the final list of three nominees for two awards.

Araujo was nominated for the MLS Humanitarian of the Year Award and the MLS Young Player of the Year Award.

LA Galaxy attacker Chicharito will battle it out with Sporting Kansas City star Daniel Salloi and New England Revolution midfielder Carles Gil for the Comeback Player of the Year Award. Mexico national team star Chicharito is in his second season at LA Galaxy and he was the leading goalscorer for the club in the just concluded regular season with 17 goals and three assists in 20 starts and one substitute appearance. In total, Javier Hernandez played 21 times for LA Galaxy during the 2021 MLS regular season as he missed some games due to injury. Also, Chicharito has been named an MLS All-Star for 2021. He had an impressive record of ten goals in his ten games at the home ground of LA Galaxy, Dignity Health Sports Park, during the MLS regular season for 2021.

For the MLS Young Player of the Year Award, LA Galaxy star Araujo will battle it out with Ricardo Pepi of FC Dallas and New England Revolution midfielder Tajon Buchanan. 20-year-old Araujo had a career high of 32 starts and zero substitute appearances during this year’s MLS regular season. He had seven assists in those 32 games and also made the MLS All-Star for the first time in his young career. Araujo was joint fourth for tackles won (54) and 11th for interceptions (52).

For the Humanitarian of the Year Award, Araujo was named alongside Austin FC shot stopper Brad Stuver and Justin Morrow of Toronto FC.
