LA GALAXY EYEING THIRD SUCCESSIVE WIN
LA Galaxy are eyeing a third consecutive victory ahead of their home game with Portland Timbers on Saturday. The MLS football giants have won their last two games in all competitions ahead of the visit of Portland Timbers.
The current two-match winning run at LA Galaxy is on the back of the disappointing 3-0 defeat to Houston Dynamo. LA Galaxy were convincingly beaten at home by Houston Dynamo in the league thereby losing ground on the top teams as far as the Western Conference log is concerned. Paraguayan striker Sebastian Ferreira scored the opener for Houston Dynamo on the way to the big away win over LA Galaxy.
LA Galaxy bounced back from the humiliating home defeat to Houston Dynamo in grand style after the derby win over Los Angeles FC (LAFC) in the US Open Cup. LA Galaxy beat LAFC 3-1 at home at the round of 16 stage to secure their berth in the last eight of the competition. After a goalless draw in the first 45 minutes, Kevin Cabral scored the opening goal six minutes into the second half before Mexican star Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez added a second goal six minutes later to put LA Galaxy in a fantastic position for a quarterfinal berth in the US Open Cup. Serbian substituteDejanJoveljic wrapped up the win for LA Galaxy nine minutes from time. Ryan Hollingshead pulled one back for LAFC, but it was mere consolation.
In the league, LA Galaxy came from behind to beat Austin 4-1 at home. Chicharito and Joveljic were also on the scoresheet during the home game with the Texas-based team. All the five goals were scored in the second half. Serbian star Joveljic came off the bench to score twice, while Chicharito and Edson Alvarezscored one goal each.
LA Galaxy will win their third game in a row if they beat Portland Timbers later this week. As things stand, LA Galaxy are fifth on the Western Conference log with 23 points from 14 league games.
