Owen criticizes Liverpool’s failure to replace Suarez
Former Liverpool star Michael Owen is agitated with Liverpool’s inability to get a suitable replacement for Luis Suarez. Snubbing his club’s decision to gather 4 20 mn pound players in place of the Uruguay international, the English legend described the move as a similar mistake as of Tottenham’s replacement with Bale.
In fact, Owen has even termed Liverpool’s Suarez replacement move as biggest mistake by the team boss Brendan Rodgers.
After the Uruguay player shifted to Barca, the Anfield boss paid 4mn pounds to Southampton to sign in veteran player Rickie Lambert. Ex Man U striker Balotelli was grabbed for 16 mn pounds from AC Milan whilst Liverpool also signed in Belgiu star Divock Origi. However, according to agreement, the Belgian has to be sent back on one-year loan contract to Lille.
Moreover, Italian player Borini (Fabio) got back to Merseysidepost a very positive loan stint with Sunderland.
Whilst Sturridge (Daniel) has been inactive for a major part of this football season goven a great host of injuries, Liverpool’s situation seems critical. Apart from Daniel’s injury issues, what’s bothering the famous club more is the limp performance mode as shown by the most promising players of the squad. Borini, Lambert and Balotelli have not been able to score any goal in Premier League games even after 9 matches.
According to Owen, the injury and underperformance mode are responsible for his old club’s sloth start in the campaign. He was especially miffed with Balotelli’s poor performance as he has become almost consistent with a no-goal status. Comparing Liverpool’s critical stance at Anfield, Owen reminded of a similar situation that was witnessed at Tottenham’smistake of replacing Gareth Bale past summer. Tottenham splurged around 100 mn pounds to get Roberto Solado, Erik Lamela, Paulinho, Nacer Chadli, Etienne Capoue, Vlad Chiriches & Christian Eriksen as the replacement for one Bale.
